AAU Indoor National Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 11, 2016) – Approximately 1,500 athletes and their families were in attendance in Landover, Md.  for the inaugural AAU Indoor National Championships at the Prince George Sports & Learning Center.

Hosted by 1992 Olympic gold medalist Darnell Hall and his wife Karen, the national event was the largest indoor track and field event the organization has held in more than 120 years of existence. Boys and girls from ages 5 through 22 took part in the two-day event.

The AAU Indoor National Championships was the last of three national indoor track and field events hosted annually by the AAU. The AAU Northern Indoor Nationals featured more than 500 athletes in Rockford, IL in January and the AAU 14-Under National Indoor Championships brought more than 600 athletes to Ypsilanti, MI.

“Each of our events took a significant step forward this year in terms of both quality and participation,” said Charles Oliver, AAU Athletics National Chair. “We enjoyed an exciting indoor season and look forward to seeing even more of our 46,000-plus athletes race in our outdoor events summer.”
